Supreme Court Allows Only 13 States to Run Lotteries
Because there are many illegal lottery activities, the Supreme Court of India now allows only 13 states to run lotteries. These states are Kerala, Goa, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram.
One popular and special lottery in Meghalaya is the Juwai Teer lottery. This lottery is managed by the Meghalaya state government.

About Juwai Teer Lottery
Juwai Teer is a betting game played in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. The word ‘Teer’ means ‘arrow’. Archery is a traditional sport for the Khasi tribe in Meghalaya. Juwai Teer is a unique lottery system. A group of archers shoot arrows at a target. Officials count how many arrows hit the target. This number becomes the winning number. People can buy tickets costing between ₹5 to ₹50. They bet on a number when they buy the tickets. You can check the results on the official website.
Results to be Announced at 2 pm and 2:30 pm
Juwai Teer happens in two rounds at 2 pm and 2:30 pm. Until 1980, the government of India banned Teer betting games. In 1982, the government made Teer betting legal because they saw it could make money. Now, the government controls Teer betting under the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax Act 1982. There are three Teer lotteries in Meghalaya every day: Shillong Teer, Khanapara Teer, and Juwai Teer. People can buy betting tickets from 10 am to 3:30 pm. If someone wins the Teer lottery, they get 60 times the amount they paid for the ticket. For example, if someone buys a ticket for ₹30, they will win ₹1800.
